Having one of these monitors really gives you the peace of mind that every parent needs.
There are many different brands and types of baby monitoring device available. However, there are some things you need to bear in mind though before you buy one for your baby.
The first thing you should think about is price. Everyone wants to save money, but a monitoring device for your baby isn't the place to cut costs. A decent baby monitor should cost anywhere between $100 and $200. The price will depend on how many features the baby monitor has.

I had the unfortunate experience of having to go to the hospital to visit a friend with her month old baby boy. It seems that her baby was having some complications and it required that he stay in the pediatric ward for a few days.
While I was paying my visit I watched as the nurse did some checks of the baby's vitals and also did a diaper change. While I was watching, the baby was not all together too fussy considering being in a hospital crib. But, what struck me as the importance of sensory development was that in order to comfort the baby they had installed a small light machine.
This light machine basically produced a mild serious of light changes to the area around the crib. The lights danced about the room and similar to the Cloud B Constellation Night Lights gave the dingy hospital room a calm, peaceful, feeling.
After the nurse was done with her duties and the diaper change, I was able to speak to my friend and ask her about the lights and how the room was set-up. She explained that the rooms had been set-up just for the purpose of soothing the babies that have to stay in the hospital for several days. What was even more important to my friend, is that she has a Cloud B Night Light in the baby's room at home and it keeps the baby's nighttime sleep pattern the same, because he sees the same lights in his own room.
